To live the dream or not to? Back in July – at a moment, within a second, my whole life changed. One morning I woke up, and worked a normal day when everything suddenly changed. I felt like I’ve lost my whole life, but what really changed was the situation I was in.

My thoughts, my attitude and my appreciation of my own life. I used to appreciate all the little things in life and then suddenly they seemed just meaningless. Surrounded by hopelessness, my only thought is to change my life completely. A job offer from the Dominican Republic comes in and I fly determined, careless and full of joy across the Atlantic only to find the job offer to disappear like sand in the wind.

Coming back to Germany I am still convinced though that my new life still should start there. So two month later I am flying back to the Dominican Republic. However everything is different than I thought. But why?

Sometimes you want something with all your might and it simply doesn’t happen. It’s not your heart which gets you something but only your past actions.

The Dominican Republic as inspiration

Being back in the Dominican Republic, all people seem to be happy on the outside, but I can feel that deep in their hearts they are full of grief and sorrow. If you take a closer look, you can see behind the facade and glimpse at the reality. The fears, the different kinds of annoyances, the fundamental oppressive insecurity, there is loneliness, suffering from loved ones and deep unprocessed anger in people’s souls. Somehow I try to help – but I realise that first I need to work on my own ‘problems’ and fall through all the negative energies and experience around me in an even deeper hole which leaves me hopeless.

I feel like the kite, which has been struggling to fly but suddenly all the wind stops and I am tumbling towards the ground.

Social connections

I spent many days and hours talking to my family and friends. I feel blessed to have these people in my life who provide me with such strong support, especially in these dire times. They understand my past, believe in my future and simply accept me as I am. They are always there for me when I need them and for the first time in my life, I realised what family and true friendship really mean! They gave me so much encouragement!

Through them and the reflection, I also realised again who I really am, what my own strengths are and how I perceive myself and the world.

And this is where I had found myself again.

Back to appreciation

For the first time in my life, I perceive things that have shaped me more consciously. The things and situations, which were part of every day for me back in Germany before.
Now I know that there is more than just everyday life and I appreciate all the little things. Like every single snowflake, the warmth in the house after the snowstorm, the mulled wine, the cordial and friendly nature of my fellows. And who would believe it, also to the opportunity to work again? I know now all at once, that so far away from home I was allowed to learn again to appreciate it.

I have learned that it is no longer possible to run away from your open tasks, it is not possible to displace them and postpone them in your diary. Because they will come up again and again, will stick around in the back of your head until you finally bring up the attention, recognise and resolve them.

Also, I realised that when negative impulses rise within me, that it gives me a chance to assess them and every time I actively deal with them they will become smaller with each time. Fear itself is the hardest exam in life and I am learning to understand and work through it bit by bit in my life.

Sometimes you go travelling, encountering people and situations in order to recognise your true self, to recognise love and appreciation. It is a state of mind, and sometimes all you really need to do is to take some time for yourself. Listen to your body and soul to find your inner peace again.

Although this experience was not always easy, I am grateful for it as I have emerged stronger and more in harmony with myself. All this is shaping our every day lives, showing who we are and what we will become.

Only you are in the position to make changes to your life. It is yours alone and your decision who you are, who you are going to be and what you will do with a situation, a person, an encounter or an experience.

Floating In Paradise https://evokaii.com/floating-in-paradise/ Mon, 15 Oct 2018 19:10:49 +0000 http://3.127.24.41/?p=5113 Caribbean Spirit

I wake up to Caribbean rhythms and blink into the first rays of sunlight which are announcing the start of a fresh day. The ocean is ceaselessly pushing the waves back and forth over the fine sand and I can hear the wind bristling through the trees.

The first kitesurfers come onto the water; as they get their momentum and completely connect with the great ocean – they become one and magically seem to float.

That’s why I came here: to start a new life, to float in it, to be completely one with the ocean and feel the immensity of the sea. I like the fact that there is undisturbed silence in its depths – although there are ripples on its surface that are driven by the wind. Would I also find my peace?

The Art Of Balance

I pack my kites and jump into the adventure. “Kitesurfing is the art of finding the right balance. Is this not what life is about?”

Through day and night, to feel the ocean – that’s what I like. I have respect for him. For this infinity. Its water flows in the rhythm of the moon far beyond the horizon. Sometimes I feel like I’m listening to the ocean inside myself. Completely calm, he is not paying attention to me, I think. And from that moment on, he becomes my trust. My teacher. Strict but fair. Honest and merciless at the same time.

Simply Stunning

A New Life

I feel fresh in this paradise and start a new life. Laughing people with beautiful bodies stroll in swimming trunks and with flip-flops past me, while on the roadside fresh fruits are offered.

I like the idea of living in this tiny, enchanted place. But unfortunately everything is different and after three weeks I am back in the cold and gloomy Germany.

But what remains is the memory of the shining white sandy beach, the endless and inviting blue sea, the vivid colours of the island, the fresh smell of fruits and the connection of different cultures of the world. And these little items of my paradise I carry as a treasure with me onwards into my next adventures.

Moments more precious than money https://evokaii.com/moments-more-precious-than-money/ Tue, 13 Mar 2018 08:00:33 +0000 http://3.127.24.41/?p=3796 Before I set off to this journey, I just felt like I was working … but this trip has changed me a lot. After 14 hours of flight, I walked out of the plane onto the airstrip in Sri Lanka, with the following conclusion of Dalai Lama in my head:

“Nothing is more relaxing than accepting what is coming.”

Traveling always changes the state of mind, nothing though has such a vast impact as the first impression, which is putting so many things into perspective. All the colours, all the different smells, smiling faces everywhere. All my senses work on high speed to fully process the experience.
Sri Lanka – Food Market
I wake up in the morning and feel the sand under my bare feet. Silently I stroll along the beach and watch the bright colours of the sunrise. Time is standing still in this present moment. Here and now. I stay alert to capture the unique moment. Because mindfulness means staying awake.
Inspiring Beach Walks
In a quiet place I spread out my yoga mat and take in the moment. The sun is shinning warm rays onto my face. After my final meditation, the gentle lapping of fishes in the lagoon brings me back to the present now.
Mindfulness through yoga and meditation

The Now

In the afternoon I feel the wind blowing through my hair. The smell of the salt breeze is sneaking into my nose. I pack my kite-gear and go to the beach totally relaxed. I pump up my kite, put on the boots and start to rock away on the water in my very own way.
Strapping in for the ride
At first I am alone with the locals on the water and we have so much fun. When our eyes meet, we start to laugh and this laugh is so pure, full of love and bliss.
Jumping through the lagoon of Kalpitiya
My water element has me back. It connects us. We exchange the kites and share our lives for a few days. This feeling of being one with everything in the water is everything at the same time: desire, love and passion. Longing to arrive. To arrive in yourself. The power of the sun shines upon the face, the song of the wind, the endless blue of the sea and the scent of the sea bristle in the nose. What is left of my ego, my troubles and the stress which I felt I had? Nothing! The world continues to revolve tirelessly and I care for my own happiness.

Ray of Hope

And then comes this one day, this one moment that changes my life and mindset. Especially that ray of hope, which manages to open my heart. I am sitting on the beach, with my board on my feet for a moment to look at myself. Here he comes, that stranger who sits next to me, smiles and asks: “Can I help you? All ok?” He’s a pretty good kitesurfer and I’m overwhelmed and answer with a stunned “No, thanks”. Because in my mind I was already somewhere else as I was thinking “You should be out of the water long time ago and pack your stuff.” As my last hours had dawned in this paradise.
Kalpityia Lagoon
A few minutes later, I was out of the water. Unfortunately only at that moment later, when I was at the airport and the bustle around me calmed down the realisation caught up with me. Well, but what was so special now? It was this respect, this togetherness, giving without giving, and sharing this!! That was the greatest gift for me on this adventurous, bright and eventful journey. The reason is that in Europe the competitive thinking of “I want to be better”, “I jump higher”, “My jump has more style” dominates the minds. Jealousy, envy, greed and hate reign in the minds of the people instead of support for each other, to help, to contribute and to share. Therefore it is very special for me to have met these people in these few seconds and I am grateful for this moment! A special thanks to the awesome locals working at Kitesurfing Lanka. You are all wonderful and many can learn from you. Also a huge thank you to this person who has taught me in that very moment, in which I have learned more than in many years.

Snowkite Weekend @ Bernina Pass https://evokaii.com/snowkite-weekend-bernina-pass/ Wed, 10 Jan 2018 20:14:01 +0000 http://3.127.24.41/?p=3069 It’s evening, nearly bedtime. A new message pops up in my phone: “Tomorrow Bernina?” Quick check of conditions and it shows wind & sun are guaranteed. As soon I see the conditions my fingers automatically start to type my response to the message: “Let’s go to Switzerland!”

Snowkite Time

Early next morning I pick up my friends and we drive 4 hours up into the mountains. Time looses importance in the face of a beautiful Snowkite session with good friends.

Bernina Pass

The snowkiting spot at the Bernina Pass in Engadine is an insider’s favourite among all spots in the Engadine area. It features a versatile and windy surface which caters for every level of snowkiter and so also the Bernina Challenge is held in it’s wide ranging backcountry. This mountain is one of the few spots in Switzerland which has an official snowkite area and features local kite schools (Kite Sailing & BigDayz). Check out this BigDayz Short Video.

Celsius drops but the heart pumps

The higher up the road, the colder it gets. But the cold -15 degrees turn suddenly into feeling +15 degrees when reaching the piste in such beautiful condition while we pump our kites and get ready for our session.

I think by myself, indeed – without spontaneity not adventure and I sit content knowing that this moment is unique and priceless. Something which everybody needs to discover and decide for themselves. For me it just reassures me to make the most of each day and live it to the fullest. You alone decide on your happiness.
